WHAt Is an AnImAl SanCtuaRy?

Sanctuaries are places where animals are brought to live with love and protection for the rest of their lives. Many animals at sanctuaries come from abusive situations, while others are elderly or sick and simply need a peaceful place to live out the remainder of their days.

  • Permanent residences for animals.

  • Often dependent on volunteer support.

  • Excellent places for children and adults to learn about and engage with animals.

  • Engaging, safe environments for humans and animals alike.

Sanctuaries ARE...

Sanctuaries are NOT...

  • Zoos or petting zoos - remember that you are a visitor to the animals' home, and that you need to respect them.

  • Rescue organizations by nature. Rescue organizations seek to adopt out the animals they save in order to bring in more animals. While some sanctuaries act as both sanctuary and rescue, not all do - and it's important to know the difference.
